The replacement for the Nissan GT-R will be electrified in Europe

It will be done by Nissan’s high-performance division called Nismo, which hopes to bring a flagship model to the UK.

Important statements have been made by Nissan Nismo CEO Takao Katagiri to specialist media Autocar, noting that there will be a new model but the name has not yet been defined, however, it has been confirmed that it will will be sold both in Europe and in the United States and it is expected that come in this decade.

During 2022, the Nissan GT-R of the Old Continent was no longer marketed, leaving a huge void among fans of this model, since it had been on the market for 13 years. It is for this reason that the Japanese brand wants to have a sporty and image model in its portfolio.

Katagiri dropped the bombshell, noting that “this region (the UK) is very special for us, especially for performance cars. So one thing I can say is to be patient. We will be introducing a very exciting model in the UK market under the Nismo brand.”

In addition, the big boss of Nissan has confirmed that a “combination” of hybrid and 100% electric models will be launched, however the latter is looking a little further since the brand wants solid-state batteries.

The timetable that Nissan has for solid-state batteries gives clues as to when it could be realized in electric vehicles, which research indicates is in an advanced stage and it is expected that in 2024 a factory pilot will enter service, so It should be ready in 2026 and in 2028 it can be seen in production.

In this way, it is expected that this future model will indirectly replace the Nissan GT-R, although the task will be very difficult since the loyal followers of this model are not satisfied with anything.
