Volvo announces the arrival in Chile of the new VM trucks

The Swedish firm hopes to have the VM, VMX and VMX Max family by 2023.

Volvo Chile Trucks and Buses is adding news these days. Following the announcement of the 20 selected for the Volvo Iron Women 2022, it has now been announced that during the first quarter of 2023 the arrival in the country of the new range of VM, VMX and VMX Max trucks is expected, models that have a series of innovations that improve the efficiency and availability of vehicles, with greater safety for transporters.

The new trucks are equipped with a new 8-litre engine designed and produced by Volvo; and the new I-Shift gearbox, is of the seventh generation, the latest technology available in Latin America and which is also used by Volvo’s heavy F line, such as the FH, FM and FMX trucks.

This latest generation of i-Shift automated gearbox features numerous modifications that allow faster, more precise and smoother gear changes, up to 30% faster compared to the previous version. With even more intelligence, the innovations result in reduced fuel consumption, as well as improved handling and driving comfort.

According to the brand, the sum of the innovations in the powertrain (engine, gearbox and electronic safety) allows better performance in terms of fuel consumption and requires less maintenance. Thus, productivity and availability are improved, since the mileage between each oil change is increased by 33%.

Another important point in the new models is safety. In this case, thanks to electronic safety systems unique in the light truck segment, such as ABS, traction control and stability control, faster brake reaction is guaranteed and the braking force is distributed between the axles and the truck as a whole. They also allow for increasingly even wear of brake pads and linings. They also have the new engine brake with 210 HP of braking power, with VEB technology (Volvo Engine Brake) and its command can be activated without letting go of the steering wheel.

“The launch of this new range of trucks is a new step for the transport of goods in Chile. Volvo is always on the lookout for services and trucks that are 100% designed to meet the challenges of hauliers. We are improving more and more and in less time. The benefits in terms of safety, efficiency in fuel consumption and reduction in maintenance stops allow us to guarantee the safety and profitability of Chilean hauliers,” said René Calderón, business development manager of Volvo Chile.

Volvo truck connectivity

To further integrate the many benefits of heavy trucks into this light truck category, Volvo has integrated its comprehensive digital connectivity ecosystem, Volvo Connect, into its new trucks, providing user-friendly and easy access to an unprecedented collection of trucks. data.vehicles.

“A big advantage that these new VM models bring is Volvo Connect, our digital platform for a more profitable transport operation. With this computerized system, we seek to bring our carriers to the digital forefront, offering a long-term solution that allows them to monitor all aspects of their operations, from transport management and maintenance planning. , fleet administration and compliance with applicable legislation,” comments Ignacio Vidal, Volvo Chile Service and Branch Manager.

All of the above happens on one site, with one simple login and one view. With one click, you can check the general condition of the vehicles in the fleet, access the maintenance plan and the maintenance history. The system guarantees optimal planning of these, reducing unplanned stops and, therefore, increasing the availability and efficiency of your trucks. It is intuitive and navigation is very simple, using a large number of smart devices.
