The best-selling German model in our country is renewed and now offers four alternatives, with prices starting at $35,990,000.

BMW has presented the third generation of its best-selling model in Chile, the X1, a model from German facilities built on a new platform that enables electrified technology, both for hybrid (X1e) and electric versions ( iX1).

The renewed SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) is larger than in previous editions. It is now 4,500mm long, 1,845mm wide and 1,642mm high, with a clearance of 205mm. The larger dimensions save space in the passenger compartment, but also more loading capacity, now reaching 540 litres, 50 liters more than in the previous generation.

With a more imposing design, the new BMW X1 is distinguished by a larger grille with the double banana bag of greater volume and with more marked horizontal bars. It also sports renewed bumpers and air intakes on the sides which help to reduce turbulence, as well as headlights with full LED technology where the Bavarian tradition of the “four eyes” is maintained as the light signature of the front headlights.

Side flank, it adopts the classic lines of the BMW X family, with accentuated lines and alloy rims ranging from 17” or 19”.

At the rear, the rugged look is retained, with horizontal line styling that makes it look wider and 3D L-shaped headlights.

Inside, the changes are greater and the way of relating to the model changes, thanks to the new iDrive8 infotainment system and two state-of-the-art displays (10.25″ for the dashboard and 10.7″ for the central screen) integrated on the same glass surface. What strikes the most is the absence of physical buttons, to interact on the screen or by voice commands.

In addition, the new My Modes combine individually selectable vehicle settings with interior-tailored experience worlds and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

“The redesign of this model is largely reflected in its interior. For example, in the slimmer dashboard, the curved screens on the dashboard and the infotainment system, as well as the “floating” armrest with the new integrated control panel, the removal of the physical buttons represents a new minimalist style that offers a new way of interacting with the vehicle, more linked to voice control and the touchscreen,” explains Fernando Cifuentes, Head of Market Intelligence and Product Specialist at BMW.

Increased safety on the BMX X1

The third generation of the model, which accounts for about 20% of the total sales of Germans in Chile, takes a step forward in safety equipment, especially in the presence of automated parking and driving systems. Standard features include park assist, which includes a reverse assist camera and reverse assist.

Another novelty is the presence of the Driving Assistant, which for the first time is part of the standard equipment of the BMW X1.

The driving assistant includes various driving aids such as lane departure warning, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic warning with brake intervention, departure warning (detects vehicles / approaching cyclists and warns the driver and/or passengers when the doors are open and there is a risk of collision with the detected object), rear collision avoidance. If this is not enough, extras can be requested with the Driving Assistant Professional system.

Regarding engines and versions, the new BMW X1 will be offered with engines (118i and 118d), each will have two trim levels (Comfort and X Line) and for now only single traction engines (sDrive) will be offered .

The X1 118i is a 1.5 liter Twin Power Turbo three-cylinder engine developing 156 hp and 230 Nm. It is associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and in performance it is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds, with a combined performance of 15.4 km/l.

The second option is the 118d tanker. It is a 2.0 liter Twin Power Turbo block which generates 150 HP and 260 Nm. It is associated with the same seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and reaches an average performance of 20 km/l.
