About to turn 100 years old, the SAIC Group company continues to renew its product range in the domestic market. The latest member is the RX5, an SUV that features a new design, but also increases its equipment level
Next year, MG will celebrate a century as a brand in the automotive sector, a company that has earned its place over these 100 years thanks to the evolution of its models and by offering a wide range of products, from compact to the SUVs desired in different segments, including its historic sports which are being resurrected today thanks to electromobility.
In almost a century of history, and led by the SAIC Motor group since 2007, the brand continues to impact the global automotive sector. Technology and design are its main pillars that have allowed its products to cross borders and, over the last decade, the British company has become known on five continents, with market penetration that it didn’t even hope 15 years ago.
In Chile, the scenario is no different. The brand, present since 2008 and which burst onto the market with the launch of the MG 750 sedan, has, over the years, expanded its offering and has evolved to satisfy the tastes and needs of its different users, being recognized at the top of the sales rankings of the National Automobile Association of Chile (ANAC).
Since 2017, and after the reveal of the MG ZS EV at the Shanghai Auto Show the same year, the brand has integrated electric vehicles into its offering with the aim of bringing electromobility closer and more accessible to users. In 2019, MG Motor marks an important milestone on the national territory after the launch of the MG ZS EV, the first 100% electric SUV marketed in our country.
MG is a brand that has won the love and recognition of Chileans, winning several automotive awards over the years, such as “Best Value for Money Car” for the MG 3 in 2019 and “Best Brand” in 2020. In 2023 With the high-end electric SUV MG Marvel R, it obtained recognition for “Best Large SUV”, a prize awarded by the Chilean specialist press.
In the first 10 months of this year, MG ranks ninth in new vehicle sales (the only one of Chinese origin in the top 10) with 9,695 units and the ZS model ranks second in the SUV segment and the MG3 in the SUV segment. 11th place among the best-selling passenger vehicles.
With this scenario and with public recognition, the SAIC Group company, after the arrival of the MG One in the middle of the year, launches the renewed RX5, a C-segment SUV that comes in three versions.

With a new design image and although its dimensions increase a little, it remains a completely manageable and safe car. Meanwhile, the interior retains an enveloping style and standard equipment is significantly increased. In fact, it now has a 14.1″ infotainment screen with connectivity to Apple Carplay (via cable) and Android Auto (wireless), to which is added a panoramic sunroof, keyless start, parking camera, a digital cluster and a six-speaker audio system. .
The new MG RX5 retains the same previous engine, namely the 1.5 liter turbo which increases its power to 168 hp (+2 hp) and 275 Nm of torque (+25 Nm), combined with a six-speed manual gearbox. gears or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. This allows it to reach 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds.
