A lot of fresh snow has accumulated in the Northern Alps over the past few days. In the Arlberg reservoirs it is approximately 60 to 100 centimeters. The south of Austria has remained empty so far and there is still no sign of fresh snow, especially in the valley areas.
Snow will fall on Carinthia from the south on Tuesday night, but it will not exceed a centimeter or two. It will rain mostly in metropolises. This freezing rain could cause traffic problems in the early morning hours of Tuesday. There is already a risk of black ice at night. “The region from Villach eastwards to Lavanttal will be particularly affected,” predicts Geosphere Austria meteorologist Alexander Hedenig. For example, in Gailtal it may briefly turn white on Tuesday morning.
