On Friday, a 75-year-old man from the Völkermarkt district became the victim of an online scam. On November 24, the man received a text message containing a link, supposedly from his bank. There he had to give his account and private information, and he did that.

On Friday, he received a call from a previously unknown perpetrator. He pretended to be a bank employee and requested remote access to the victim’s computer. The 75-year-old agreed and a few minutes later the alleged bank employee withdrew money from the victim’s account. The 75-year-old man sustained damage in the low four-digit euro range.
