Hollywood star Henry Cavill made headlines this week when he himself announced his departure from Superman. James Gunn, the new boss of DC Studios, has turned down further films with the British actor as the Kryptonian superhero.

But the now busy Cavill has been able to get his hands on his next project: in the connected universe of the series and film based on the Warhammer 40,000 board game, Cavill is taking the lead and serving as an executive producer. Reported by “Deadline”.

Amazon is in the planning stage

As a result, Amazon Studios has secured the rights to what is probably the most popular board game in the world. A connected universe is planned, which, according to Deadline, will likely also include games and animation projects. As a producer, Cavill will also have a say in business decisions behind the scenes. On Instagram, the star wrote: “Now, after 22 years in the entertainment industry, I finally feel like I have the skills and experience to create the Warhammer cinematic universe.”

Cavill describes finding a “film director, series creator and screenwriter” as the next “first steps”. Amazon will give the planned large-scale project “the freedom to pay homage to Warhammer’s massive scale.” Cavill himself has shown himself to be a big fan of the game in the past.

This is Warhammer 40,000.

In the Warhammer 40,000 board game, players go into battle with miniature figures of warriors and war machines. In the far future of the 40th century, a highly militarized humanity is at war against various alien races in a galaxy-spanning conflict. Warhammer 40k, as the game is also called, is a mixture of science fiction and fantasy.
