Yoshihiro Togashi reveals alternate ending for Hunter x Hunter in case he dies before finishing the manga

Through a recent interview, the author spoke about the end of the work.

Hunter x Hunter is one of the most recognized works of manga and anime, but due to the health problems of its creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, it has not been able to have regular publication over the years. Given this, the author has now raised the possibility that he may not be able to finish the manga, so decided to announce an alternative ending that he had excluded and which will be the official ending in case he does not achieve his goal.

The information came out of an interview with the Iwakura and Yoshizumi show on TV Asahi (Via ScreenRant ), and where the author mentions that he prepared several endings for the story, which would have different acceptance from the public.

“For the final, I prepared three scenarios which I call A, B and C. The difference between them lies in the level of reader satisfaction. The ending of A, for example, would leave 50% of readers satisfied and 20% dissatisfied. This doesn’t guarantee that everyone will like it and get a good rating, but it also wouldn’t complicate things or attract too much criticism.

With ending B it would be similar and with ending C there would be 10% of the audience happy and 90% angry. Why am I still thinking about it if I know I wouldn’t like it? First because it’s the one I like and secondly, because I want to have all the doors open in case in the end I don’t choose the same ones, but a fourth one that takes things from here and from there.

To give you an example of what I mean, I’ll tell you a D scenario. An ending that I considered and ruled out, but if my destiny were to die before finishing the manga, it can be considered the ending of ‘Hunter x Hunter’. So that you can forgive me for leaving early:

Below we leave you the ending told by Togashi:

“At the edge of a lake, a girl named Jin holds a fishing rod without moving. Suddenly, the hook shakes violently and Jin exclaims, “I got it, I have the king of the lake!” while he skillfully pulls it until he manages to catch the fish. Suddenly we see that there is a woman next to her and she says: “As I promised you, I caught the king of the lake, mom! But don’t tell me to go back to being a hunter.

The woman next to him, his mother, shakes her head and watches Jin walk away with his prey. Then she turns to her husband and tells him that her daughter’s dream is to never leave the island and inherit the house. The man laughs, but the woman expresses her displeasure. “Maybe he’ll change his mind later.” Why are you and Jin like this? It’s probably because of the blood of grandmothers Mito and Noko.

The woman doesn’t seem to realize that the two grandmothers are not related by blood, but the man smiles and shushes her. The woman expresses her wish as a mother: “This girl carries the blood of the famous hunter Gon, so one day she will leave the island. »

Jin insists, “I’ll never leave!” “, even if we no longer see her anywhere. Then the father speaks for the first time: “You have a very keen eye. »

Suddenly, the scene changes: Mito’s store. The king of the lake has already been cleaned and its internal parts separated. Jin thinks as he works, “Mom will never understand. When Grandpa talks about his happy memories as a hunter, Grandma Noko always shifts restlessly in her seat. Every time Grandpa Gon recounts something from that time, she swears under her breath about the years of waiting and sadness waiting for someone to return. “She said she should have kept someone waiting.”

Just then the door opens and a chubby boy walks in with a plant. “I chased the king from the lake, I chased the king from the lake!” he exclaims. But Jin continues to do his thing. “I will always, always be with the person I want to be with. Together forever.” The boy nods and begins to prepare food with her, both with smiles on their faces.

A bird flies over the house and leaves the island. The son, daughter and grandson live in different places and exchange smiles. Perhaps they are one character’s children or another’s grandchildren. The bird continues to move away and a silhouette in the distance watches everything. END”.
