After the box office failure of The Marvels, Bob Igerthe CEO of Disneysaid there was a lack of supervision on the film’s set because of the COVID pandemic.
He said that the combination of restrictions imposed due to the pandemic and the increase in Disney productions for the Disney+made it difficult for studio executives to oversee multiple projects.
The Marvels became one of the biggest failures of Marvel Studioswhere it has so far grossed only US$77 million at the box office in the United States and US$187 million in the rest of the world.
According to how the VarietyIger said the following: “The Marvels was filmed during Covid. There wasn’t as much supervision on set, so to speak, where we have executives [que estão] really taking care of what is being done day after day.”
However, Bob Iger said that always reaching a billion in box office sales for every film to be considered a success is an unrealistic goal.
“I’m not sure another studio will reach some of the numbers we did,” Iger added. “I mean, we’ve gotten to the point where if a movie didn’t make a billion dollars at the global box office, we would be disappointed. That’s an incredibly high standard and I think we need to be more realistic.”
“I don’t want to apologize for making sequels. Some of them did extraordinarily well and were also good films. I think there has to be a reason to do them, you have to have a good story. And often the story doesn’t hold up and isn’t as strong as the original story. This could be a problem”concluded the Disney executive.
Actress comments on box office failure of Marvels
Also according to the international website, Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel, said that it doesn’t matter if it fails at the box office.
“[A bilheteria] It has nothing to do with me. I’m happy with the final product and the people I care about liked the film. This movie is really fun to watch, and that’s all we can ask for with these movies. It has superheroes, it’s set in space, it’s not that deep and it’s about teamwork and brotherhood. It’s a fun film and I’m so happy to be able to share it with people.”
