In front of the camera
This is due, in part, to an anxiety disorder that has not yet been completely overcome, Basinger said recently, when she was working as an actress.
Basinger has been in the spotlight for decades. She went from Bond girl to Oscar winner, something no one had ever achieved before. In 1983, she starred almost half-naked in the film Never Say Never Again, along with
Successful as a model
Basinger was born in 1953 in the US state of Georgia in the family of a musician and actress. Her mother enrolled her in ballet when she was three years old, and later supported the 16-year-old girl’s first steps as a model. Basinger won several beauty pageants and eventually dropped out of college to become a professional, well-earning model. She went to New York, took acting lessons and landed her first roles, including in the TV series Charlie’s Angels.
The role of a Bond girl in 1983 was her breakthrough, and the erotic film “9 and a half weeks” made her a world star a few years later. However, she turned down the leading role in Basic Instinct, which then brought Sharon Stone worldwide fame.
Her roles declined in the 2000s and 2010s, most recently receiving poor reviews for her appearance in Fifty Shades of Grey. But despite everything, Basinger said at the time, she loved the job. “I’m very lucky that I was able to be in the movie business for so long and I’m still in it today.”
Difficult family relationships
In 1993, after a failed first marriage to makeup artist Ron Snyder, Basinger married fellow actor Alec Baldwin; at the time, they were one of the most sought-after dream couples in Hollywood. Daughter Ireland was born in 1995. But the marriage ended abruptly in 2002, setting off a years-long legal battle over custody in Ireland.
The three now understand each other again, although it’s not always easy, Basinger and her daughter Ireland, now a successful model, told Red Table Talk. Basinger’s focus now is on her personal life, including boyfriend Mitch Stone, and her commitment to animal welfare. She lives in southern California near Ireland, and they both spend a lot of time by the sea, with their many pets, music and books. Basinger also writes his own books, especially children’s books.
“She’s made peace with her life and her career,” Basinger says. “We all have our problems, ups and downs, successes and failures, but everything is a process and over time I have learned to love my journey in life and be grateful for everything. I have learned a lot and will continue to learn until I leave this planet. I do not regret anything”. (DPA/DH)
