The Percy Jackson series embraces what is special to fans and opens the door to a great franchise

After a decade, the franchise Percy Jackson and the Olympians will have a new live-action adaptation in Disney+.

Unlike trying to summarize everything in a single film, the series will instead have the advantage of having eight episodes for each story.

The producers of the series say they try to preserve the essence of the books and please fans of the franchise

The first season of the series will focus on the plot of the first book of the saga, entitled Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

The showrunners of the series, Dan Shotz AND Jonathan E. Steinberghe said in an interview with the comic books that the first season will be a complete adaptation and provide an experience in its own right. Shotz said:

“We knew that the first book was going to be the first season, so we had to take the journey of this book and know that we had to fit it into this box, but we also had to pace it so that it feels like we’re moving. It’s a “adventure. It’s a ride. It’s like a journey across America. We had to make sure it fit into this box.”

Preservation of the essence of the books and satisfaction of the fans

In turn, Steinberg assured that the team responsible for the series is paying attention to the adaptation process.

The goal is not simply to adapt the books to the screen, but also to convey the unique experience that fans have had while reading the works.

“When we took this on, and I think when we started getting to know Rick and Becky (Riordan), I think the promise was made that a lot of care was going to go into this.”Steinberg began.

“It wasn’t just about trying to bring the book to the screen or just trying to bring something to market, but it was about trying to really embrace what was special about the experience that people had with books and to find a way to translate it.” . I think everyone from the studios, from 20th to Disney+, to Rick and Becky and our team, really agree that this would be something that would be addressed.”

Avoid the same mistake as in the movies

One of the issues reported by fans in relation to Percy Jackson and the Olympians it was an attempt to cover many events in one film, resulting in a rushed and superficial narrative.

With this, the Disney+ series tries to avoid this mistake, planting the seeds for future stories already in the first season. This will happen through references and characters that will develop over the course of the series.

“I think part of the job was setting the table”, Steinberg said. “Making sure everything was in the right place and the right actors were in the right places for this to have a long life.”

The series will premiere on the Disney+ streaming platform on December 20.
