A HBOdespite the controversial ending of game of Thronescontinue to invest in the universe created by George R. R. Martin. Several spinoffs are in production, including a sequel focusing on Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and a series about Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) from the House of the Dragon.
Another prequel is also in the early stages of development game of Thrones which will face the conquest of Westeros by Aegon I Targaryen. Written by Mattson Tomlin, the series still holds many secrets, but, based on the premise and knowledge of the universe of A Song of Ice and Firewe can speculate on some important plot details.
What to expect from Aegon’s Conquest?
Second LoopersIn Martin’s fictional story, Aegon’s Conquest (Aegon’s Conquestroughly translated) refers to the military campaign that led to the subjugation of six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros under the command of Aegon I Targaryen.
This, in turn, is the ancestor of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and the protagonist of The House of the DragonRhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy). In the Targaryen family tree, Aegon is the great-great-grandfather of Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine).
The HBO series will presumably cover Aegon’s Conquest in its entirety. This historical period is of great importance and certainly justifies a dedicated television program. After all, it was during this period that amazing elements of the franchise, already known and loved by fans, were introduced game of Thrones AND The House of the Dragon.
Aegon’s Conquest will detail elements already mentioned in Game of Thrones
In his conquest Aegon I Targaryen was aided by his wives and sisters, Visenya and Rhaenys, and by his three legendary dragons – Balerion, Meraxes and Vhagar – and with this he became a central figure in the universe of game of Thrones.
Fans of the series will definitely recognize these names. In The House of the Dragonthe Targaryen family keeps Balerion’s gigantic skull as a monument in their castle.
Meraxes, although darker, has been mentioned in some episodes of game of Thrones. Vhagar, however, is still alive The House of the Dragon and is Aemond Targaryen’s dragon mount (Ewan Mitchell).
The new series promises to tell the story of how these three dragons became legendary. Additionally, the series will explore the creation of the iconic Iron Throne, commissioned by Aegon following his conquest of six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros. As well as the successful resistance of the southern kingdom of Dorne.
The completion of Aegon’s Conquest, referred to as 1 AC, marks the beginning of the in-universe calendar game of Thrones, similar to the year 1 AD in our world. It’s no surprise that HBO is eager to bring this crucial conflict to life in the franchise’s canon.
