6th death sentence for protests in Iran

Another person was sentenced to death in connection with the protests in Iran. Iran’s judicial authority said on Sunday in Misan Online that Tehran’s Revolutionary Court found it guilty of “pulling a knife in the course of recent events with the aim of killing, spreading terror and disturbing society”.

This is the sixth death sentence in connection with the demonstrations. Iran has been rocked by protests since the death of young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini on September 16. The 22-year-old woman was arrested by the morality police for allegedly wearing the headscarf improperly. She died in the hospital a short time later, she. Activists accuse police of harassing Amini.

Iranian officials describe most of the demonstrators as “rebels” who were exploited by foreign powers and suppressed the protests with all their might. They also take action against prominent critics. For example, famous actress Hengameh Ghasiani has been arrested, state news agency IRNA reported on Sunday.

The 52-year-old, who was fiercely critical of the authorities’ crackdown, posted a video on Instagram Saturday evening where she took off her hijab in public. “Maybe this will be my last post,” he wrote. “No matter what happens to me, you should know that I will be with the Iranian people until my last breath.” Last week, he called the Iranian government a “child killer” and accused it of “killing” more than 50 children.

According to Irna, Ghasiani was arrested for inciting and supporting “riots” and for contacting opposition media. According to the news of Misan Online, seven more celebrities from the world of cinema, sports and politics were summoned by the judiciary. Among them is Yahya Golmohammadi, the coach of Tehran football club Persepolis FC. He criticized the players of the Iranian national team for “not bringing the voices of the oppressed to the authorities”.
