Ministry of Social Affairs in Vienna receives commemorative plaque for victims of Nazi military justice

The government building is located in the Stubenring in Vienna’s 1st district and houses, among other things, the Ministry of Social Affairs. A commemorative plaque is planned for the future.

The “Justice for Victims of Nazi Military Justice” committee was tasked with examining the history of the government building, which today houses the ministries of labor and the economy, social affairs and health, agriculture and forestry. The house in Stubenring served as the center of military justice in Vienna during the Third Reich. A symposium and a memorial plaque are planned to be erected in the house in the coming months.

It is planned to erect a memorial plaque

Social Affairs Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) stressed in a broadcast Tuesday that the aim is to make this part of the building’s history visible. “Knowledge of our past and our responsibility to the terrible atrocities of the National Socialist dictatorship are a prerequisite for shaping our future”. Officially, it should be in line with the monument to the persecuted at Ballhausplatz by the Nazi military judiciary.
