Mikl-Leitner calls for stronger protection of EU’s external borders
He called for better protection of the EU’s external borders to ensure that the law, not smugglers, decides who enters the EU. He emphasized the need for asylum procedures in third countries outside the EU and explained that this debate has been going on for 20 years. Mikl-Leitner emphasized that the EU has reached a turning point and needs stricter laws.
The governor also expressed the view that the EU should stop getting lost in details, prohibitions and obligations and become a union of freedom, peace and competition.
Lower Austria: an active member of the EU
AER President Albert Castellanos Maduell praised Lower Austria as one of the most active members and emphasized the importance of regional competences in the EU. AER members shared the desire to promote effective civil dialogue in Europe.
