An Austrian citizen is currently held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Intensive efforts to release the father of the family at every conceivable level “are a top priority,” ORF radio Ö1 reported on the “Morgenjournal” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna on Friday morning. ORF also spoke to the hostage’s father, who is currently in Vienna: “I’m really worried,” said Gilad Korngold.
The hostage is reportedly his son Tal Shoham, 38. The dual Israeli-Austrian citizen was kidnapped with his wife and several children on October 7, when the militant Palestinian organization Hamas launched its major attack on Israel with rocket attacks, massacres and kidnappings. Other family members, some of whom are German citizens, were also released last Saturday.
According to Gilad Korngold, Hamas videos show that his son is alive and being held in the Gaza Strip. According to the radio report, Korngold met with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) in Vienna and asked for support from the Austrian federal government for the release of his son. As on previous occasions, he expressed confidence in the government’s determination.
