The 37th edition of the America’s Cup, the largest and oldest sailing competition in the world, will take place in 2024 in Barcelona. Emirates Team New Zealand, the winning team of the last edition – which under the rules have the right to choose where to defend the title – announced on Tuesday: “As holders (defender, in jargon) of the America’s Cup, we still feel responsible for growing the event, the public and sailing on a global scale. The 2024 event held in an important city like Barcelona will surely allow us to stimulate new growth in the world sports scene ” he said Grant Dalton, team leader from New Zealand.
Also in 2024, the America’s Cup will be held with boats of the AC75 class, the so-called flying monohulls seen in 2021 in Auckland in the last edition. Five teams will try to compete for the cup against the New Zealanders: Luna Rossa (Italy), American Magic (United States), Ineos Britannia (United Kingdom) and Alinghi Red Bull Racing (Switzerland).
