That Aston Martin went through a crisis in the second part of the 2023 F1 World Championship is no secret. And after the six podiums of Fernando Alonso In the first seven races, the British team accumulated several grand prizes far from the top positions. Since the Asturian’s second place in Canada, he did not step on the podium again – with the exception of Zandvoort – until Interlagos.
In the last twelve races, Alonso has only achieved two podiums (Holland and Brazil) and has suffered up to three abandonments. The decline was very evident and no one hides it at Aston Martin. Mike Krackdirector of the English team, speaks openly about that decline and highlights the attitude of Alonso and Stroll during those difficult weeks.
“At first it was like a honeymoon, and then when We had more difficult moments as a team, I think that brought out the true qualities of the team, from Fernando and also from Lance, we stayed together. They were very complicated times for us. The good thing is that the relationship between us became even stronger,” highlights Krack.
“Both pilots agreed on what the main problems were. Alonso was always constructive, with whatever and wherever we were, whether in the factory or on the track, he always said what he thought, he always told the truth., he didn’t get carried away by emotion or whatever. So it was a pleasure to see him act like that,” the Luxembourger underlines about the Oviedo driver.
Krack hopes that in Yas Marinathe last race of the year, are able to neutralize the 11-point difference over McLaren in the Constructors’ World Championship.
“We only have influence over what we do and, first of all, we need to have a car that is fast in Abu Dhabi, because we are behind. So We are not going to go on the defensive, we have to go all out. Then we have to do our best on the track and see what the results are,” Krack concludes.
