It means Schalke remain in 16th place and Fortuna have moved up to third in the table, at least for one evening. In front of 52,000 spectators in the sold-out Düsseldorf Arena, Vincent Vermeil (13th and 26th minutes), Felix Klaus (19th place), Christos Tsolis (65th place) and Jona Niemiec (90th place) + 4) scored goals against the hosts Schalke Marcin. The matches were Kaminski (57th place), Tomas Kalas (74th place) and Brian Lasme (75th place).

The ferryman is back in the Schalke gates

Two weeks after the 2-1 defeat to Elversberg, the Schalke coach used the same starting lineup, with the exception of Ralf Fehrmann, who returned in goal after injury. But the score didn’t add up after just 30 minutes. The hosts, plagued by serious injury concerns in defence, surprised with a three-man backline that included midfielder Yannick Engelhardt and two very attacking wide players.

The Düsseldorf team quickly found their rhythm and, thanks to Vermeil’s brace and Klaus’s goal, beat Schalke 3:0. The team that was relegated from the Bundesliga made obvious mistakes in defense. In just the 33rd minute, Geeraerts adjusted his formation with three early changes and switched to a four-line defence. This gave the visiting team more stability and order. Kaminiski, Kalas and Lasme eventually made the game even more interesting after Tsolis made it 4-1. The German then scored a goal to make the final score 5:3.
