The Austrians felt like they were in the wrong movie during their visit to France when Amandine Henry headed in to give the home team the lead in the fifth minute. In the first leg in Vienna, the ÖFB team conceded a goal in the same minute, thanks to star player Wendie Renard.

But the Austrians didn’t give up, played cheerfully in the early stages and were almost rewarded. Because in the 17th minute, Marie-Therese Höbinger only hit the crossbar. Not much happened until shortly before half-time, when referee Ewa Augustyn awarded France a penalty after a handball. Manuela Zinsberger saved Eugenie Le Sommer’s penalty (44′).

A similar picture in round two. Austria played well in the game, had a great chance to equalize through Eileen Campbell (54th) and had to accept the 0-2 result in direct return. The previously failed Le Sommer made the preliminary decision with her goal, Marie-Antoinette Katoto (84th) made the final score 3-0. First place in the group, and with it the chance of qualifying for the Olympics, is gone. For the ÖFB team, the direct duel against Norway on Tuesday (7:15 p.m.) is about second place and staying in League A. A draw would be enough for the Austrians.
