Pinkelnig finished second at the World Cup in Ljubno

Eva Pinkelnig narrowly missed out on a double victory at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Ljubno after winning on Saturday.

The Vorarlberg native was forced to concede defeat to Slovenian local hero Nika Prevc in front of 6,000 spectators on Sunday. The 35-year-old player, who celebrated his third win of the season the other day, was 5.1 points behind after the 90 and 92 meter jumps. Another Slovenian, Nika Kriznar (-7.9 points), came third.

Sixth podium place

“I feel very comfortable there, there was an incredible atmosphere. It was a great comeback in the second round,” said Pinkelnig, who won two positions in the final and thus reached the podium for the sixth time this winter. In the overall World Cup rankings, the reigning champion, who was only able to enter the fifth competition at the end of December due to knee problems, is still in third place. The gap between Pinkelnig and 18-year-old Prevc, who won for the sixth time this season, is 202 points after 13 of 26 matches.

Ninth-placed Lisa Eder and eleventh-placed Jacqueline Seifriedsberger were also pleased with Sunday’s good result. Julia Mühlbacher was 18th and Chiara Kreuzer was 23rd. Sara Marita Kramer could not start in Slovenia due to gastrointestinal problems. We will continue next weekend with two World Cup competitions in Willingen/Germany.
