For the tenth time in 28 years, All I Want for Christmas Is You Christmas pop song Mariah Carey this week at number one on the official German charts. Excites, probably, only the question: The first? Or again?

Because the song becomes a hit every year. And this is again a catchy tune in early December upstairs. This was the case in 2021 and 2020 as well. On the other hand, three years ago the song only reached the top during the holidays themselves or after Christmas. And then (December 27, 2019) he was there for the first time.

A week later, the Christmas hit – apparently tired of listening – completely disappeared from the top 100 again.

All I Want for Christmas Is You: this is the reason for the success of the song

The fact that the song has risen so high at all lately seems to be due to its growing cult status in recent years, as well as the streaming boom and people’s nostalgic playlists around the holidays.

Carey’s classic only topped the US charts in 2019, a quarter of a century after its release.

In Germany, the song managed to hold the number one spot for the five weeks leading up to Christmas in the strict Corona period at the end of 2020 (4/11/18/25 December 2020 and 1 January 2021).

Last year All I Want for Christmas Is You was at the top for three weeks (03/10/17). And now he’s back in first place (December 2). In general, this is up to ten weeks. (pack/dpa)
