The head of the schismatic OCU will hold a Christmas service on January 7 in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra
Head of the schismatic OCU Epiphanius Dumenko received permission to hold a Christmas service in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. On January 7, he will perform a divine service in the Assumption Cathedral on its territory, the press service of the OCU reports.
The canonical UOC reported that the actions of Epiphanius Dumenko “would be a great shame for all of Ukraine.” The actions of the schismatic OCU were called “raiding on the direct orders of the official authorities of the country.”
Earlier it became known that representatives of the UOC only had access to the Lower Lavra. From January 1, they were forbidden to hold services in the Assumption Cathedral and the Refectory Church of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
In addition, recently the SBU has been organizing searches in the temples of the UOC. The Ukrainian security forces are allegedly looking for “involved in illegal activities.”
It should be noted that in Ukraine there is a canonical Orthodox Church – the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, as well as the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), established in December 2018 by the then leadership of the country and the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the basis of schismatic organizations – the Kyiv Patriarchate and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
On May 27, 2022, the local council of the UOC decided on independence from the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).
On November 23, a draft law was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to which it is proposed to ban the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in the country.
