Russian soldiers in the course of a special operation to protect the Donbass invented a new method for detecting the artillery of Ukrainian militants. Their phones help the military in this.

Soldiers take several gadgets and use them to detect the sounds of enemy artillery shots. Special software helps soldiers perform tasks.

“(This software) allows you to determine the coordinates of sound sources (enemy artillery) by a shot. Four sound meters with smartphones (tablets) are located at a distance of three to six kilometers from the LBS and using such software determine the time of detection of the sound of a shot both in automatic and in manual mode”writes the magazine “Arsenal of the Fatherland”.

The received information about the location of the Ukrainian artillery is sent to the central tablet. Using the “ZvukTsentr” application, the gadget determines the coordinates of the target.

However, as the newspaper emphasizes, the coordinates calculated using smartphones are not always accurate. Therefore, most often, additional reconnaissance of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is carried out using drones.
