A police officer in London has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping and sexually assaulting multiple women. A court in the British capital ruled on Tuesday that the 48-year-old must spend at least 30 years behind bars before he can be released on parole. The man pleaded guilty to rape, abuse and deprivation of 12 women between 2003 and 2020.
Accordingly, the police officer responsible for the protection of the British Parliament repeatedly abused his duty and service card, among other things, to control and intimidate his victims. It is said that he repeatedly humiliated women by locking them in a small room naked or urinating on them.
The incident caused outrage across the country. It commemorates the March 2021 murder of Sarah Everard, who was abducted by a London police officer using her ID card and later raped and killed. The Metropolitan Police have already been under criticism for a long time. There are repeated scandals about criminal and corrupt officials and employees. The new chief of police, Mark Rowley, has promised strict measures. Investigations against hundreds of employees will be resumed.
