Mexican journalist stabbed leaving radio station in Jalisco

Mexican journalist Susana Mendoza Carreño was injured on Friday after receiving a stabbing while leaving the vicinity of a radio studio in Puerto Vallarta in the Mexican state of Jalisco, where he had gone to broadcast live his program “All voices count”.

Mendoza, who is also the director of the radio station at the University of Guadalajara, was allegedly attacked with a knife by a group of three people who tried to take her bag and her two phones. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition. .

Additionally, at the scene of the attack, the alleged attackers stole Mendoza’s vehicle, which was left on the ground until it was picked up by a University student.

“The University of Guadalajara expresses its absolute disapproval of the climate of insecurity that exists in Jalisco. This Friday, July 1, the director of Radio Universidad de Puerto Vallarta, Susana Mendoza Carreño, He was one more victim of the violence that exists in the country. the university body expressed itself in a press release.

“Susana Mendoza Carreño only did her job (…). We call on the authorities to take urgent action against the insecurity we are experiencing in Jalisco,” the graduate center added.

For his part, the media director of the University of Guadalajara, Gabriel Torres, denounced the attack and criticized the fact that “a critical voice” was stabbed.

“They assaulted and seriously injured the director of Radio Universidad in Vallarta (…). The presumption is that she was attacked. A critical voice has been stabbed,” Torres slammed on his Twitter account.

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to clarify the facts, as the judicial entity itself reported in a statement.
