The head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, and the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, discussed issues related to the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP, reported on the state corporation’s Telegram channel on Saturday, December 2.

Likhachev and Grossi met in Dubai on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). During their meeting, issues related to ensuring nuclear and physical safety of the Zaporozhye NPP were discussed. The interlocutors also agreed to hold full-scale consultations in January-February next year.

“The focus was on issues related to ensuring the nuclear and nuclear safety of the Zaporozhye NPP,” the message notes.

Rosatom added that the topic of the work of the IAEA mission at the station was touched upon, as well as the issue of the upcoming rotation of agency experts, which is scheduled to take place on December 5, 2023.

Earlier, Advisor to the General Director of Rosenergoatom Renat Karchaa explained that there is nothing grandiose and critical in the fact that the Zaporozhye NPP is transferring power unit No. 5 from the “hot shutdown” mode to the “cold shutdown” mode to find out the reason for the excess boron content in the 2nd cooling circuit . According to him, ZNPP workers need to study the situation and understand what was the reason for the excess boron content.
