Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tried to put a humiliating start to his presidential campaign behind him on Thursday, detailing an aggressive travel schedule as he their allies insisted they would remain well-funded and well-positioned for a long time in the Republican primary.

Although DeSantis supporters privately acknowledged that his failed announcement was an unnecessary distraction, even among some Republican critics there was a widespread feeling that his long-term political fallout would be limited at best. For the skeptics, the campaign confirmed Thursday evening that it had raised $8.2 million in the first 24 hours since entering the race, a sky-high figure that far exceeds the amount President Joe Biden has raised in the same period.

“Wish you could do it again? Probably,” said David Oman, a seasoned Republican trader from Iowa, referring to his ad riddled with technical glitches. “Are we still going to talk about it in 10 days? Probably not”.

DeSantis officially announced his campaign Wednesday night during an online chat with Twitter CEO Elon Musk. But the audio transmission had Repeated issues that made it difficult for most users to hear the announcement in real time.

Thursday, the Republican governor. announced plans for a three-state tour next week with at least 12 stops. He has campaign rallies scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Iowa before heading to New Hampshire on Thursday and South Carolina on Friday.
