Top player Gerwyn Price (38) made a splash at the Wigan darts tournament against Brendan Dolan, abandoning the match at 2-4.
“Absolutely terrible conditions,” the former world champion wrote in an Instagram post. “You travel all the way to Wigan to play a professional game and then you have to play amateur.” Price did not go into detail. When the break came, Dolan was just two legs away from victory.
“I never quit playing. Well, that means I’ll be out tomorrow too,” Price continued. “It’s a shame because my game was really good today and I rely so much on these events.” Before the fight with Dolan, Price celebrated victories over Karel Sedlacek (6:5) and Matthew Dennant (6:2) at the so-called Players Championship 1.
Littler throws nine darts
17-year-old prodigy Luke Littler stunned Michel Tourette with a rare nine-darter score of 6-1 at the same tournament. With a minimum of nine arrows, the world vice-champion scored 501:0, which is considered a perfect game of darts. (dpa/iumum)
